About Ms. Collins

DeAnna Collins graduated from the University of Utah in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in English education. After interning around the valley, she was offered her first long-term subbing position at Athlos Academy of Utah. “Once I got to know the students, I knew I was ready to jump into teaching full time and I knew I wanted to return to Athlos specifically,” she said. “The students, staff, and administration were all incredibly supportive as I began teaching on my own and I knew immediately this was the school I wanted to be at!”

Collins feels her best quality as an educator is her approachability and ability to develop caring relationships with her students. “This is one of the main reasons I decided to go into secondary teaching,” she said. “Middle school students have so much to offer us as adults, but it can take a while to earn their trust and build those relationships. I want my students to be able to come to me with anything and that can only happen by maintaining a certain level of kindness/approachability.”

“The thing I look forward to the most about teaching at Athlos is returning to the wonderful student body I grew to love and care for during my time as a long-term substitute,” Collins said. “Athlos has some of the most passionate and kind students I have ever worked with and I cannot wait to see them on a more permanent basis.”

Favorite Performance Character Trait: Energy/Zest

“There are going to be times where we are asked to do things we may find mundane but with the right attitude we can make any task or assignment fun and exciting!” said Collins. “Life is meant to be enjoyed and not endured and I truly believe that by finding ways to add zest into our everyday routines, we will be able to find beauty in the ordinary.”
