About Coach Maxwell
Justin Maxwell earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from the University of Utah in 2014. He has worked at Whitesides Elementary School for the past two years. During that time, he earned his master’s degree in sports pedagogy from the University of Utah.
Maxwell has a variety of coaching experience, including football, wrestling, and weight training.
“I chose to work with Athlos Academy of Utah because most schools see physical education as a glorified recess and don’t expect much from their physical education teachers,” Maxwell said. “This is not the case with Athlos. Their dedication to the entire body — both body and mind — is something that I have seen nowhere else.”
Maxwell strives to include helping every student identify and practice at least one physical activity that they enjoy and learning every student’s name. “I want to begin to connect the physical activity performed at school to home,” he said. “In other words, help the families of the students be more active and healthy.”
Favorite Performance Character Trait: Courage
It takes courage to do so many things in life,” he said. “I have seen the most growth, had the most fun, and been the happiest when I have had to demonstrate courage in some way.”
