About Ms. Buhler
Marie Buhler joined Athlos as the school’s music teacher. Buhler graduated from Riverton High School in Herriman where she was a member of the choir and played French horn in the band, marching band, and pit orchestra. Buhler then attended Snow College on a music scholarship where she participated in every ensemble she could fit into her schedule including choir, band, orchestra, private lessons, small ensembles, and musicals.
Buhler received her associates from Snow College and her bachelor’s in music education from Utah Valley University. She was a member of the UVU chamber choir for four years and the assistant director for one of those years. Buhler has also taken private conducting and voice lessons
While earning her degree, Buhler worked with the Orem Children’s choir and student taught at Pleasant Grove High School. She also was a substitute teacher for the Jordan School District for more than five years. Buhler currently sings with a semi-professional Utah County based choir called Cantorum.
As an educator, Buhler says her best quality is her passion for the arts. “Teachers who love their craft, and have a well-organized system, inevitably help others enjoy that craft as well,” she said.
Buhler was drawn to the Athlos model because of the focus on movement and growth. “A stagnant life almost immediately pulls us in the opposite direction — like stopping while trying to walk the wrong way on an escalator — but keeping our bodies and minds always engaged leads to progression and change. It helps us be better people,” she said.
Favorite Performance Character Traits: Courage & Grit
“The courage to rise up, take risks and try new things is critical in life and certainly in the arts,” she said. “Where would our ballerinas be if they gave up after a failed recital? Or actors who just couldn’t get into a big show or movie? It takes real courage to continue after failure.”
