Hello NEW Griffin Kinders and Parents,
New is an amazing word! It is full of possibility and potential to experience, try, and see.

With the new school year just around the corner, we will be welcoming our new Kindergarteners: YOU!
We are so excited for you to join our classrooms and begin your academic journey. We anticipate seeing your smiling faces, molding your eager minds, and growing together.

Kindergarten will be a new experience for you. It offers many things to explore including a new school, classroom, desk, toolboxes and tools. You will get to know new people including your teacher and classmates, soon to become new friends!

The most exciting part is all the new things you will learn! You’ll discover new books, learn the letters, expand your vocabulary, and develop the skills of reading and writing.

We will broaden our number skills as we count and use those skills to add and subtract. We will learn we can do many things with numbers: forwards, backwards, top to bottom, subitizing.

Oh! There are so many new ideas and skills to be learned! Kindergarten opens new doors for our future as we master the foundational skills necessary to succeed in school including academic and social.

A new class that will be added to your curricula is gym. You will have a Coach who will guide you through large and small motor skills. Gym is always moving: doing and working on important physical skills. It is essential to try these new movements. These new skills with broaden your ability helping you grow and become stronger.

Some new, daily school experiences include:

    1. Attending school all day long. You’ll need to get a good night’s rest to have the stamina to participate in all the activities offered at school.
    2. Eating in the cafeteria. Sometimes it can be very loud and bewildering. But we remember we are surrounded by friends.
    3. Recess. There will be lots and lots of kids your same age to run around and play with.
    4. Walking down hallways quietly to other classes. We learn to be respectful of others and follow rulesand etiquette.

As a Kindergartener you’ll have the opportunity to participate in school wide activities such as jog-a-thons, Adventures at Athlos, Kindness Week, and Griffin Days.

While we are enthusiastic about new experiences, they are interspersed with beloved familiar ones including:

    1. Music including the Christmas and spring programs.
    2. Halloween parades.

    3. Carnivals.

Yes, there will be many new things to experience and participate in next year! To be ready for this grand adventure of learning we must: come to school on time ready to learn, work hard, try, and work
together. Each of us need to do and be our best, showing kindness, patience, and tolerance. As we do so, we willbuildastrongteam, whetherthatbeaclassroomasawhole, partnerpair, ortableteam. Wewill strengthen each other.

New can sometimes be a little scary. It will challenge each of us as we develop the skills necessary to meet this challenge. But new is also good and exciting. Let look towards the possibilities the new school year holds for each of us!

    Welcome!
