3 Steps to Become an Athlos Student

Policies

Enrollment & Lottery Policy

Athlos Academy of Utah holds an annual enrollment period. If there are more applicants than available seats during the enrollment period, a lottery will be held. All applicants will be sorted into a random order at that time.

Athlos Academy of Utah follows federal and state regulations, guidelines, and practices regarding enrollment of all students. The school shall not discriminate in its admissions or enrollment policies based on race, color, religion, sex, national or ethnic origin, disability, or special needs as defined in IDEIA.

Read the entire policy:

To understand the process, please see the enrollment process page which outlines the three steps to become and Athlos student.

  • Students must be 5 years old by September 1 of the year in which they start kindergarten and 6 years old by September 1 of the year in which they start first grade.

Seats will be offered first to students who qualify for enrollment preference under Utah Admin R277-437. Enrollment preference will be given as follows:

  1. First to siblings of enrolled pupils and foster children of that pupil’s parent/guardian(s);
  2. Second to children of the school’s full-time staff and active school board members, not to exceed 10% of the total student population;
  3. Students living within a 2-mile radius of the school.

Once enrollment preference has been addressed, seats will be offered to students based on the lottery.

For applications received after the lottery, students will be placed on the waitlist for their grade level based on the date their application was submitted.

Parents will be notified by email, phone call, and/or U.S. mail if their child is offered a seat.  It is the parent or guardians’ responsibility to make sure all contact information is correct and accurate.

Parents will have two (2) business days from the date of notification (time-stamp, call log, or postmark) to respond to an offer by email, phone, in person, or via U.S. mail.

When all seats are accepted for a given grade level, the remaining students will be placed on a waitlist. Students on the wait list may be offered a seat during the school year if one becomes available in the student’s current grade level. Seats will be offered to students in the order in which they fall according to the most recent lottery. If a student is offered a seat after the start of the school year, parents will have two (2) business days. Waitlisted students are reentered into the lottery each year.

In compliance with Utah Code § 53A-1a-506.5 (3), parents must indicate their intent to transfer an enrolled child to another charter school or a district school by submitting one of the following:

  • On or before June 30th, a notice in writing of intent to enroll at another charter or district school.
  • After June 30th, a letter of acceptance from the new school indicating enrollment for the following school year.
  • During the current school year, a letter of acceptance from the receiving school indicating the student’s intended start date.
