Dear Athlos Staff and Families,

With great enthusiasm, I am announcing a new school leader coming to Athlos to join the Griffin family.

Please join me in welcoming our new Executive Director, Dr. Brian Dawes, who will join the Griffin family in July.  Dr. Dawes comes to Athlos with a wealth of knowledge and over twenty years of educational leadership experience.

Dr. Dawes is a lifelong learner with a Bachelor of Science in Social Science from Southern Utah University, a Master of Science in Social Science and HR Management from Utah State University, and a Doctorate in Advanced Educational Leadership from Argosy University.

He taught for seven years at the middle and high school level and was the principal at Ferron Elementary, a National Title 1 Distinguished School. He was the past President of the Utah Association of Elementary School Principals. As a school leader, he significantly improved teacher retention at his previous schools. He has worked to build inclusive school communities for children of all faiths and diverse cognitive and physical abilities. Dr. Dawes has a portfolio of notable successes and a career filled with helping push the bar of educational excellence for students, educators, families, and school communities.

We are elated to welcome Dr. Dawes to our school community. He will be joining veteran teacher Mrs. Stacy Tonozzi, Assistant Principal. Together, this dynamic leadership team will continue the growth and improvement of our school as we focus on providing an exceptional educational experience for staff, students, and families.

I am so impressed with the Athlos approach to education. The priorities on a Prepared Mind, Healthy Body, and Performance Character align perfectly with my beliefs about education. I couldn’t be more excited to join the amazing Athlos community of students, parents, teachers, and staff. Enjoy the summer.  The back-to-school meet and greet will be here before we know it, and I look forward to meeting each of you soon,” said Dr. Dawes.

We will welcome Dr. Dawes at our Back-to-School Meet and Greet on Thursday, August 17, from 5-6 p.m. for new families and 6-8 p.m. for all families.

I have already had several great conversations and visits with Dr. Dawes as we prepare for a smooth transition, and I hope to stay involved as the school continues to flourish and grow. Go Griffins!
